Naver finally have competition?
If you live in South Korea Naver is king when it comes to search engine use. Yahoo Korea famously tried and failed and Google has struggled although they are gaining ground slowly.
Daum which is South Korea’s second largest search engine behind Naver has constantly played catch up to the more widely used Naver.
Recent news published on Techcrunch tells us that there could be a game changer coming up soon. Kakao and Daum are merging!

Kakao Corp and Daum announced today that they will merge through an equity swap, creating a company with a 3.4 trillion won (about $2.9 billion) market capitalization. Kakao is the maker of KakaoTalk, South Korea’s top messaging service, while Daum is one of the country’s largest Internet portals. If the deal goes through, the combined company will be listed in October.
